MEDIA RELEASE – $5 MILLION TO SUPPORT EXPANDED FACILITIES FOR MORNINGTON DISTRICT BASKETBALL ASSOCIATION

On Saturday 30 April 2022, Mornington Basketball welcomed Greg Hunt, MP and Zoe McKenzie, Liberal candidate for Flinders to Mornington Basketball.  Zoe McKenzie made an exciting announcement that if the Coalition Government is re-elected, they will provide $5 million to support the development of an additional four new courts located at Mornington Secondary College.

The new facilities will serve both school and community, meeting the increasing needs of local basketball participants of all ages, as well as delivering additional required space for school sport and performing arts activity. It will cater to the continued growth in basketball participation in our region over many years and alleviate current pressures on facility provision.

Furthermore, the new facilities will also provide our community with modern, accessible facilities for our entire community to access and will provide a long-lasting legacy for future generations to come.

Over the past few months, we have focussed our time on seeking the support of our local Federal Candidates (Liberal, ALP and Independent) and it is a great outcome to see the announcement on Saturday.  Mornington Basketball will now turn our focus to advocating to the Victorian State Government and Federal ALP, to seek their funding support, which to this point has also been overwhelmingly positive.

Thank you to all our participants and community for getting behind this exciting project.  Big thanks also to our major strategic partners Mornington Secondary College, Basketball Victoria and the local community.
