Morninton Basketball COVID-19 Update

15th March 2020

Dear Members

COVID-19 UPDATE NO.1

As advised on Friday 13th March 2020, Mornington District Basketball Association, has indefinitely suspended all MDBA sanctioned activity until further notice due to COVID-19. This action was taken following advice from our governing body, Basketball Victoria.

MDBA has not received any confirmed cases of the COVID-19 virus from any of its members. The decision to close is to reduce the chance of infection to our members and slow potential transmission and community spread of the virus.

Please read below confirmed details:

Summer 2019/20 Domestic Finals

In regards to domestic finals a decision has been made to conclude the Summer 19/20 season as of the last round. Premiers and Runners Up will be determined by the 1st place and 2nd place ladder position as of Friday 13th March 2020. Trophies and awards will be available for collection in the coming weeks. We will advise you when they are ready for collection which will be some time after 23rd March 2020. Congratulations to all finalist teams on their success this season!

Winter 2020 registrations

Team registrations for the Winter 2020 season close on Friday 20th March 2020. Please ensure that you register your team before the cut-off date to avoid the $60.00 late fee. With the new PlayHQ system in place and staff working in upheaval, we would like to request that you please have your team registrations in on time. This will ensure that the season is fixtured and ready to kick off as soon as we have the green light.

VJBL & Big V

Basketball Victoria has suspended both VJBL and Big V competitions and we hope to be able to provide updates on when this is expected to return. Training for VJBL and Big V has ceased until further notice by MDBA.

Programs – Jump Ball, Ground Breakers, Breakers Development Squad, High Performance Programs, Awesome Hoops

All term 1 programs are currently suspended until further notice. Detailed information will be distributed when available.

MDBA is working closely with Basketball Victoria to monitor the situation and will be guided by their recommendations. MDBA will not sanction any basketball activity, while these restrictions are in place until further notice.

MDBA staff are currently working remotely and are contactable by email, as per below:

Samantha Browne – General Manager – manager@morningtonbasketball.com.au

Deb Kruger – Finance Officer – finance@morningotnbasketball.com.au

Nathan Cumberland – Operations Coordinator – operations@morningtonbasketball.com.au

At this point of time there is a great deal of uncertainty when our competitions and programs will return. MDBA will keep members updated via social (TeamApp & Facebook).

Thank you for your understanding and patience during this complex situation.

Yours sincerely
