Mornington Basketball High Performance Program provides additional training to a select number of identified talented U14 & U16 Breakers players that display the greatest potential within the Breakers program or have the ability to achieve selection into Basketball Victoria Development Programs. The program offers professional focussed coaching in an athlete first environment.

The program will prepare players mentally for elite level basketball, develop goals and basketball IQ, improve advanced fundamentals, increase fitness and overall health. The High Performance Program is the first progression on the Mornington Basketball Pathway and leads into potential selection in the Futures program.

Who is responsible for selections

The Basketball Development Manager will discuss the selection of players with the Director of Coaching and their Head Coach.

In making decisions on who is invited to the program the Basketball Development Manager, Director of Coaching and Head Coach must consider and be able to demonstrate that the player aligns with the following MDBA values, Sportsmanship, Accountability, Integrity, Community and Respect.

Who is eligible for selection

  • U14 and U16 Breakers who demonstrate the greatest potential or have the ability to achieve selection into Basketball Victoria Development Programs and/or play at the highest level within the Mornington Breakers program.
  • Current Breakers players in Futures or Basketball Victoria programs FDP, SDP, NPP are not eligible for selection in to the Mornington Basketball High Performance Program.

How are players notified

The process for invitation to the program will be as follows:

  • Basketball Development Manager, Director of Coaching and Head Coach agree on the players to be invited
  • Email from Basketball Development Manager to the General Manager with the name of the player and team
  • Players will be sent a link to register, agree to the terms and conditions and pay the applicable fee.

Terms and Conditions

Players and parents will need to accept the following terms and conditions prior to attending their first session

  • It is a privilege to be invited to the program, players must display at all times exemplary behaviour both on and off the court and act as a positive role model at all times.
  • Players that are invited to the program must be self-motivated, dedicated, and train at high intensity whilst in the program to improve their basketball performance.
  • Players must show a commitment to Mornington Breakers for the duration of the program and have every intent on being a member of the Association for the following season.
  • Players must attend a minimum of 9 sessions throughout the term.
  • A fee of $120.00 for the program must be paid prior to the first session.


The High Performance Program is run on a term by term basis by Nathan Cumberland our Basketball Development Manager. Each term runs a 6 week block similar to Basketball Victoria's SDP. Athletes are expected to attend a minimum of 9 of the 12 sessions each term.

Sessions are held Mondays and Wednesdays 6:30am-7:30am at Mornington Basketball Stadium
